Bad Decisions Make Good Logs.

The following is a tale of cheer and woe. A good cautionary tale to those of us that are just a little too determined sometimes.

Another concern was that if I couldn't make it out they would probably have to call 911 anyway. Who on their own is physically going to be able get me out of here by themselves. I would end up being one of those people you hear about on TV that you shake your head at and say "what an idiot". With my luck, anyway; they would probably have to field dress me like a deer to get me out. I guess that would be one way to lose a couple extra pounds.

The Legend of Five Man Cave

An undercover agent was placed in his cell to see if he could gather more information.  The agent befriended the man and was told about a deep cave located on the north side of the Weirgor Trout Stream. East of Spring Creek and south of the Seerly Camp Trail.

I went as far as I dared into the cave. I didn't want to run into a skunk or a bear when the only way out is through me. I did fight off 2 velociraptors, 1 facehugger, and 3 Aliens inside but a hearing a scurrying noise was the last straw. There are several more caves in the area and you have to be very careful not to fall in some areas.

Gundy's Canyon Tour - Leaf it to Rusk 2015

The weather was perfect for a nice 5 mile jaunt through Gundy's Canyon. Along the way we saw Little Falls Slip and Slide, Cascading Waterfall, Gundy's Canyon and Gundy's Felsenmeer. I enjoyed everyone's company along the way and special thanks to James for bringing up the rear for me. 

Normally it is about a 4 mile hike but when you walk around to check things out and take pictures it is surprising how it adds an extra mile. See you on the trail and have fun.

Another Great Use for Multi-caches. Gundy Canyon, Little Falls Slip and Slide

Use a multi-cache to lead geocachers through an area that they might just skip over. Traditional geocaches have to be 528 feet apart and wouldn't work in an area like this. In this instance, I wanted to show geocachers another feature that was only 300 feet away.

Here is the first of several videos focusing on the unique features in Gundy Canyon.  Gundy Canyon located in the Blue Hills on the western edge of  Rusk County.

It is amazing all the different features you can observe in a 1 mile walk in the middle of what seems to be nothing more than just a swamp. As I put this article together, our route never stopped transitioning from one ecosystem to the next. We get inside and sit down on the couch. I unzip my pouches and grab the forceps. I don’t know if this is common knowledge or not but squeezing forceps on string cheese is a nonstarter. You can’t grab string cheese with forceps.

We went from beacon to beacon with no luck. We were starting to have a little trouble and a slight panic was starting to build that we might not find it at all. Sweeping back and forth along the island getting about 80 feet beyond the jumpy GZ (ground zero). A lot of good hiding spots but not the right one yet.

As we followed down the creek, springs added to its flow. Just the start of some Marsh Marigolds sprouting up, soon to bloom. We found an old logging road starting to grow in. The  road lead us up and around, then back down to the creek. You could smell the pungent odor as Bob snacked on a wild spring onion. Lunch had come too soon.

A quick jump over the creek we continued on down the a trail muddy with water running down from the Big Hill to the West GC5Q099 .  Some trout lilies and spring beauties lining our path.

I had been planning on releasing a very fun little adventure I  went on this spring getting the cache CF - Not Hawaii but my Sony gaming laptop crashed about 2 weeks ago. It might have been longer as my frustrations have turned time into a blur. I didn't want to give up because I really like my laptop. It is very well equipped for editing video and has been virtually problem free until now.

I thought this was one of the funnier moments on our trip  downstream as Master Canoeist 400Eiger teaches how to turn the canoe. This is a small portion of a canoeing trip down Duncan Creek, just north of Chippewa Falls, to get the A.F.D.R.E. cache. GC48XM9.  This cache was on the Wisconsin Geocaching Associations Lonely Cache Game List. It was also a First to Find but more about that will come in the full video. 

Spring Geocaching

Deer are out in the fields leaving the balsam and browse of their wintering grounds. Toms are out strutting to grab the attention of a hen while Jakes are running in groups trying to muck things up. The geese are flying north and the crows jaunt from here to there. All of the migrating ducks still showing off their breeding colors. Slowly working their way up the thawing rivers and lakes.
